About the Waiting List
The Office for Residence Life maintains an on-campus housing waiting list for
undergraduate students who currently commute from home or who live off-campus, and
who wish to live in one of the residence halls on the Villanova University campus.
Students who place their name on the housing waiting list, should understand that
the list is not managed on a "first-come, first-served" basis. Rather, the Office
for Residence Life will consider a variety of factors in determining who should
be invited to fill available vacancies in a given year. Students with unique or
individual personal circumstances that they wish to have considered are invited
to outline their situation in a letter and submit it to the Assistant Director for
Housing Services.
Policies for the Housing Waiting List
Freshman
Freshman commuters or freshman living off-campus who accept an assignment
to an on-campus housing vacancy should note that the assignment is only valid
until the end of the academic year in which it was made, i.e., their housing
status will become one of "temporary resident", making them ineligible for participation
in the housing lottery for rising sophomores. Students interested in being considered
for vacancies that become available during their sophomore year should request
that their name be returned to the housing waiting list.
Sophomores
Sophomore commuters or sophomores living off-campus who accept an assignment
to an on-campus housing vacancy will be added to the general resident population
and permitted to remain in campus housing for one additional year, i.e., they
will be eligible to participate in the housing lottery processes for rising
juniors.
Juniors
Junior commuters or juniors living off-campus who accept an assignment to
an on-campus housing vacancy should note that the assignment is only valid until
the end of the academic year in which it was made, i.e., their housing status
will become one of "temporary resident". Since the University does not
provide on-campus housing guarantees for students beyond their junior year,
with the exception of those students with four year housing guarantees through
a special program or scholarship, juniors who obtain on-campus housing through
the wait list are not eligible for housing during their senior year. Students
interested in being considered for vacancies that become available during their
senior year should request that their name be returned to the housing waiting
list.
It is important to note that while a student may have his/her name on the housing
waiting list, this does not guarantee a future space on-campus. The number of spaces
which become available in a given year varies and is dependent on factors such as
attrition in the freshman class or the need to "triple", i.e., place three students
in a double room due to a larger than anticipated number of students accepting offers
of admission. In general, students who place their name on the housing waiting list
should not anticipate receiving notice of available space on-campus until just prior
to the start of the Spring Semester, as it is very unlikely that students from the
waiting list would be offered housing for the Fall Semester.
